I was thinking on this for a bit but... Whoopie's Playtime is now playable on Newgrounds! You can play it here:

This game is heavily based on janky platformers that I played in the mid 2000s as a kid. Half of them were even on Newgrounds! I say were because they got deleted at one point for some reason... To be more specific, the games were called Mario Vlax, Luigi Castle on Fire, Waluigi, and Sonica. I didn't realize this at the time (although I noticed the similarities), but all of them seem to use the same engine. Which engine? I have no idea! I think I was trying to research last year, but to no avail. Before I explain what I did though, I should provide some context:

This game was made for ME-OS, my operating system simulation game full of games, programs, and OS like features. More specifically, Whoopie's Playtime is part of the Zelomedia Splash collection, which is comprised of smaller/simpler flash like games and parodies. With this one specifically, I tried to make it just as janky as the engine it was inspired by. The enemies move very similarly, the timing/speeds/physics, etc.. However I thought that people might get a bit grumpy if the whole game plays super annoying, so I toned down the default unfairness/difficulty, and added an unfair mode that can be turned on in the options. That mode makes it as close as possible to the engine including frantic timing, random/unpredictable enemy movement, and more. I'm really hoping that someone recognizes what I was going for, that would be really cool as I'm not sure how many people played the source inspirations haha.

Initially I wasn't sure whether I wanted to upload more smaller ME-OS games on Newgrounds (especially with one coming very soon, but more on that later...) but this one felt like it had to be here. I mean after all, at least a portion of the inspiration material was uploaded to NG almost two decades ago! That's a loooot of time. I'm hoping people around my age or older feel nostalgic playing this, and people who don't feel the nostalgia just get a fun little game to enjoy. Either way I just owe a lot to this site because it formulated a large chunk of my childhood, as well as exposed me to very talented people/very cool content, and even friends! So I hope you enjoy this little tidbit I have to offer for now :)

As for the thing I mentioned earlier, I'm making another Zelomedia Splash game, except similar to when I released Super Hard Quiz P2, this game is being made with the intention to release to Newgrounds as well! I've been spending the past two weeks animating/drawing, which makes me wanna claw my eyes out, but it's gonna be awesome (I hope!). I don't want to reveal the theme just yet, but I'm aiming for this coming Saturday, if not the next one (29th).

If you're interested more in ME-OS, make sure to join the Discord server where I talk more about this stuff/show sneak peaks, host events/contests, and more! Otherwise, thank you so much again for reading, I love this site and I love showing you guys my stuff!!

The ME-OS art contest (music/visual/etc.) had it's deadline moved to Dec 8th! If you want to make some cool art in exchange for cool prizes in the game, join the Discord and read the contest rules! Anyways, let's look at a funny gif...

iu_1123648_3988024.gif

That's right, the Portal Dreams game for ME-OS is getting items now! They can be used in single and multiplayer, and add a new edge to the game. You have to find and collect these items before you can use them, and so on. And of course, I implemented one of the hardest ideas for an item first, because I like to torture myself... a portal shot ©™®!!1

I've always been fascinated with portals in games, so once I decided to add items to Portal Dreams... I knew I had to make an item that can create them lol. Getting the shaders, math, physics, etc. done for this was all a nightmare... to put it into perspective, the easiest thing I had to do was rewrite the entire player movement code to a more physics based system lol. It also works with teleporting any prop, too...

iu_1123650_3988024.gif

I've been working on this game a lot recently, as it's not one of the only planned release titles I want to have with ME-OS, but also such a fun game in multiplayer. I mean, me and my friends already mess around spawning random stuff in multiplayer here and just create complete chaos lol. Now with all the improvements, changes, and additions, playing with my friends should be much more fun next time lol

I've also been getting other stuff done on the other games in ME-OS here and there, and man it's so much work! I work at my job during the day, and then right after work on this until I usually just go to bed. But I know it will be worth it, just gotta get more people to discover the game lol. My dream is to just make this game be me and Emily's success, and even if it flops well... I'll still keep developing it lol I love it :)

I also have to release three remixes by the end of this year that I haven't even started yet, so I gotta get on that really soon! I don't think anyone will guess what they will be of (and even if you do I can't tell you smh).

Besides that, I've been really trying to keep reviewing stuff like I like to on NG. When I have the time to, I usually go through like 10 songs a day (if I can, more, and if I also can, some art) and it usually takes a good hour to do that. Unfortunately sometimes I forget, and sometimes I don't have the time, but I really like to knowing that it might make someone happy that day. Only thing I worry about is if my reviews are like, samey if that makes sense? But I always try to really write what I think even if it does seem overly optimistic lol. So if you ever see my review on your stuff and it's just full of good things it's because I really mean it!

I feel like I could write more but I should probably get back to work... if you read this far thank you! I dunno how much people out there read my news posts but yeah. See you next news post!

The ME-OS art contest continues! If you like to draw, make music, write, or do anything artistic in general, feel free to join for a chance of getting a cool prize such as an item in the game itself! The more people join, the better the rewards get, so if you're interested then hop on the Discord for instructions and submission channel :)

iu_1112731_3988024.gif

This is my totally legit contest submission I made in Lum Paint, I worked really really hard on it..

As for the updates, we've been really busy working on stuff for the next update ever since the last one came out. There are currently a whole NINE characters that are planned to maybe come out the next update for Jump Wars (nine is a lot so maybe split over the next two), and two of them are already done! There are also a lot of Keyccordion songs coming the next update as well. One of them you might have already heard, which is this one:

But otherwise there's a good few other ones coming too, including much more guest songs. Some of the guest songs I'm honestly really happy with, but you'll just have to wait and see... at least four new songs will be coming to the update for sure!

Otherwise I've been working on improving some other things and starting on stuff I've wanted to for a while. For example, a lot of people had different thoughts on how to improve the controls for the Gon Ball Rally marble racing game, and I've made some changes that people seem to say feels way better. One of those changes for example is having better control over stopping the ball faster if you want to go in the opposite direction, etc..

For the next few weeks, I will be implementing more of the Jump Wars characters, the Keyccordion Dawn songs, and hopefully some more stuff I want to show for next update... I can't wait to show it all!

One more thing though, would you guys be interested in public demos? Basically stuff from the current game just with a bit less content that you can download for free and enjoy to see how you like it. And what games, programs, and features are you excited the most to see?

Lemme know and thanks for reading!

We're hosting a big ME-OS art contest from now until November 24th! You can make any kind of ME-OS related art whether it be a drawing, a model, a song/remix, writing, etc. for a chance to win some prizes such as content in the game! To find out more or submit an entry, join the ME-OS Official Discord and check out event-submissions channel.

I'm really excited to host this event, as it's the first ever ME-OS event in general. Me and @spicycoffee have been hard at work on it since 2018! Man that's a long time... even though both of us are very busy these past five years, we put a lot of time aside to work on this project as well. But recently, I want to make a bigger effort engaging with current members of the ME-OS community, and want to introduce it to more people as well! So if you haven't heard of the game before, or are curious to find out more, now is the perfect time especially with an event going on :)

Thank you for reading, hope you consider joining!

Finally, after over half a year, we bring a big new update!

This update is full of content! There are new games, a ton of new music featuring awesome guest artists such as @F-777, @Waterflame and Screenhog, a bunch of new characters in Jump Wars including guest appearances (Starter by @FelixBlobDev and Chicken Man by @FunPix), and so so so much more! I'll break it down below, but if you want a very descriptive list of changes, check out the changelog. And make sure to join our Discord server to interact with our community and get more frequent updates!

Keyccordion Updates!

iu_1090290_3988024.webp

One of our biggest endeavors this update was to add more content to Keyccordion, and we really hope you're all excited! Because we got FOUR new songs. This includes:

Lascia Ch'io Pianga Keygen Remix (4/5 difficulty)

Power Glove (3/5 difficulty)

Unnamed song by @F-777 (3/5) difficulty

Glorious Morning Keygen Remix (5/5 difficulty)

That's right, we got guest songs from some awesome composers this update too! Thank you so much @F-777 and @Waterflame! There's a lot more to come, too.

One additional thing, is we also added some really nice impact effects for the notes to increase the game feel. Hope this is enough Keyccordion for one update ^^;

Jump Wars

iu_1090291_3988024.webp

We got a whole SIX new characters joining us this update, including two guest characters by @FelixBlobDev and @FunPix! We even got an awesome new stage sprited by ME-OS codeveloper @spicycoffee called Sleepy Bridge:

iu_1090293_3988024.webp

The games roster has almost doubled, we got a new stage, we even got some retro stage variants too, and also an awesome song that will play on Sleepy Bridge by Screenhog! Additionally, F-777 also made a remix of sunset hill that is heard on the sunset hill stage.

There's also a ton of improvements this update too, like for example we finally have a more proper looking HUD! It will be developed even further as time goes on. We also have a ton of visual and sound impact effects now, some are even unique to the character you're using! We already have a ton more in the works, so keep your eyes peeled...

Zelomedia Splash

iu_1090292_3988024.webp

Does the name Zelomedia Splash sound like anything familiar? Nah, must be just some coincidence... Zelomedia Splash is a new ever growing collection of small games added to ME-OS this update, mostly revolving around nostalgia or some silly gimmick. Three games already came with it including Whoopie's Playtime (above screenshot), Super Hard Quiz P2, and Apandoom's Tree. Does Super Hard Quiz P2 sound familiar? It's because I released it on Newgrounds as well for April Fools a few months back!

There will be a lot more coming to this collection, mostly oriented around spoofs and small ideas.

Desktop, File Surfer, etc.

iu_1090294_3988024.webp

There were a lot of changes, so read the changelog if you want the full idea. But we added a lot of backgrounds, cursors, etc. One of the biggest improvements we made to the file surfer though, is that now you can not only view external files through it, but open them too! If you have stuff saved to your actual computer, you'll be able to view pictures, listen to music, even open text files all up to your disposal. We also added a feature of automatic playlists (opening a song in a folder with other songs will automatically queue a playlist of all tracks in the folder). And as you can see in the screenshot above, message boxes have also been added and will be much more widely used now in ME-OS!

Conclusion, what's been going on

In general, the video shows it all off much better than in this post, I am kind of running on two brain cells right now as I've been working non stop for the past two weeks lol. But obviously I'd love to answer any questions and tell you all more about our wonderful game! I honestly wish I could've finished this update much sooner, but due to some unforeseen events it got delayed. I'm also having a lot of random health problems this past half year that required me to run back and forth between doing blood tests (ew needles) and talking to doctor bla bla bla, I don't want this post to be a sob story but just a quick reason for why it was a little slower than expected.

If you want to see more of the game, make sure to check out or website and join our Discord for much quicker updates. As always I'll keep posting here and interacting with Newgrounds creatures as this has always rocked and will keep being awesome lol. Thank you so much for reading up to here, and until next time!!

Hey all! I'll make another news post soon, but a ME-OS update is coming out in a few hours and there will be another big ME-OS LIVE you can watch! You can watch it here:

I'll write more after the LIVE comes out!

Hey all! Sorry for being kinda silent recently... let's start with an awesome picture!

iu_1042189_3988024.webp

So as some of you might have guessed, the 0.0.56 update for ME-OS got delayed pretty hard. It's a mix of a lot of factors including computer dying late June, health issues, and some other stuff in between. But hey, a lot of stuff still happened! I thought I might start with showing off a pretty big Jump Wars change coming to the update, and that's that the HUD (that was introduced early March) got a pretty major upgrade thanks to my cofounder of ME-OS/wife/friend/creature @spicycoffee !

iu_1042190_3988024.webp

As you can see, now there is a name display as well as a score display. Why score? Well, depends on what mode you are playing, it can mean a lot. And yes, that means that modes are also coming to the update as well! In stock mode, you wont see the scores. It just depends on the last one standing. In time mode, the score represents how much players you hit/KO'd. Then there is also king of the hill, coins, frag limit, but more on that later! I'm just very happy on how it looks. I also added a song name slider in the beginning of each match that appears from the top left corner (as can be seen with the second screenshot). There are also a TON of new impact changes to make the game feel more fun, as well as a whole bunch of sound effects and interactions! This includes hurt sound effects, KO sound effects, victory, etc...

There's a lot more Jump Wars specific stuff that will be shown in the next update! However, there's something I can tease at least for now...

iu_1042191_3988024.webp

There are SIX new characters coming to Jump Wars! Some are mine, some are @spicycoffee's, and two are from friends. Their gameplay is honestly really fun, and the overall gameplay of Jump Wars just feels more and more diverse with each addition. Balancing has been a pain, but hey, it's gonna be so worth it to have more and more characters pour in eventually! There's also a stage currently in the works, and some other stuff, but currently other games like Keyccordion Dawn are getting the spotlight.

Speaking of the other games, this update specifically will touch a lot upon not only Jump Wars, but Keyccordion Dawn. There have been some delays with certain things, but you will all get at least THREE new songs added to this update! One was already teased, the other two so far aren't even by me, and instead a beloved Newgrounds composer. Depends on timing I might be able to squeeze in some more, but we'll see... You're also going to get THREE brand new smaller games as part of a flash like parody collection, but more on that later!!!

IN OTHER GENERAL NEWS... I was at the Newgrounds Toronto 2023 meetup this year! Cam hosted again (thankyouthankyou), and I got to meet so many amazing people as well as have people from last year show up again. I'd write much more about it but honestly Emily summed it up pretty well and you can read her little blog thing about it here lolol

Anyways, if you wanna keep up with the game's progress, best way to do it is to join our Discord! I try to post frequent updates there, and answer all questions.

Thanks for reading up to here!!

Hey all! Take a look at this quick sneak peek! (And more info down below if you want to find out more)

iu_987780_3988024.webp

FIVE new levels are comming to the Keyccordion Dawn rhythm game!

iu_987781_3988024.webp

At least THREE new characters coming to Jump Wars!

iu_987782_3988024.webp

THREE new minigames coming to a flash like/flash parody collection called Zelomedia Splash

iu_987783_3988024.webp

New File Surfer and Desktop fixes and additions, including fully customizable message boxes, alerts, and external file viewing/accessing!

This update has been in the works since February, but has been taking a while (oops!). Originally it was going to be a somewhat small update with the three minigames being added, and some Keyccordion levels. However plans changed and well, I wanted to make this update big and special. There have been a ton of fixes and improvements, as well as lots of optimization and backend work to make future additions easier. Now, I'll go a bit into more details for the four screenshots:

For Keyccordion Dawn, the screenshot is of a new coming level. The song is a keygen style remix of Lascia Ch'io Pianga, a classical song by Handel (that's why there are a bunch of weird visuals). I was playing around with glitch effects and other cool visuals, so this single image unfortunately doesn't represent the level good enough! There's also going to be a guest composer who is well known here on Newgrounds, and they let me use three existing songs as well as one completely original song coming soon! I am so excited about this part but I gotta keep my mouth shut to keep the surprise...

As for Jump Wars, the screenshot shows three new characters that are already fully finished and ready to release. No guest this time (at least at the moment, fourth character might still happen in time for the update) but they are all so fun to play! All three have both a ranged attack and a melee/short range attack this time too, so they're fairly easy to pick up and play. This update will also feature the first character made by @spicycoffee , as she will now also be helping make characters for Jump Wars too.

The minigame collection is a feature I'm also really looking forward to showing off. You might recognize one of the minigames already, as I uploaded it in full to Newgrounds:

So there's two more on the way. They are all made with love referencing or parodying existing flash fads at the time, or just general game styles. The game shown in the screenshot spoofs a game engine that a very few flash games used back then, but I can't find any info on it for some reason. But yeah you'll just have to wait and see!

The last screenshot may look very simple, but for me the change is huge... @spicycoffee was (heavily) encouraging me to add a way to view external files (not ME-OS files but actual files on your computer) through the File Surfer (file explorer) and I was really hesitant because it would require a big redo of how the program already works. But she's right, it would be super cool... so I did it! Before you could load files from your computer into ME-OS sure.. but now it's so much more accessible, easier, and with more supported file types that will open natively in the OS! So that's why you see the new "Drives" section in the File Surfer; it's actually listing the drives located on my computer so I can access them. Another feature in that screenshot is the message boxes, which is a very important step. There's a lot of things the user should be notified while using the OS (an error on their part, or on the OS's part, a warning, information messages, etc.) but before that used to all be shown in the terminal. It is still viewable there, but now important enough messages will appear with variable messages, options, and more! I don't want to get too bored explaining, but trust me... this is a reeeeeeally cool feature.

So yeah, there is the explanation for the four screenshots! There's so much more, but you'll just have to wait till the next ME-OS Live. If you missed the previous one, check it out here:

Otherwise, thank you so much for reading, and I can't wait to show this all! And if you're by any chance going to be heading to the Toronto meetup this July, feel free to say hi :)

April Fools! Except I actually did it:

This was made originally for ME-OS, but I think it really just needed to be on Newgrounds since the first part was here too. Part 1 was well uh... not the best game lol, but it's still dear to me because of it being my first flash game on this site. I never really made flash games after that which got uploaded on here, including this, but I think it was perfect to make a tribute exactly ten years later!

This new part is essentially better in almost every way, but I only had less than two weeks to make it. Who knows, maybe one day I'll upload a new part haha

Another fun fact, since this is part of ME-OS, it will come bundled with some other flash game like parodies in a new update soon! So if you're interested, stay tuned for that (and the best way to stay tuned is on our Discord server)

Anyways, enjoy!
